SO... I cut off my hair!!!!

I had such an amazing and kind response to my new hair via Instagram and Faebook yesterday that I just had to share my new cut on Pardon Muah. If you've known me since college I used to have my hair in a short angled (very blonde) bob. When I was a Junior at the University of Kentucky (go cats!) I decided to give my hair to Locks of Love. Once I cut off 10+ inches of my hair, going shorter and shorter and blonder and blonder became easier and easier to do.

I know that it probably gives many of you long-haired gals anxiety to even think about chopping off so many inches, but I find it extremely liberating and lightening. Plus I think it's a much more polished look for my chosen career field. About a week ago I got an itch to make a drastic change to my hair and before I let myself chicken out, I cut it off! I thought about doing the LOB, but I'm an all or nothing girl so I went straight for the angled bob. Plus, it wasn't so shocking since I've had it this way before.

I am very fortunate to be blessed with very thick, quickly growing hair. It's so thick that my hairstylist had to thin out the bottom a couple of times so that it would lay nicely. The thickness makes for a very full look which gives my hair plenty of body. As for the color, I have sombre balayage. Balayage is a very popular hair coloring technique that has become quite the buzz word. Instead of getting highlights, she hand painted the bottom of my hair so that the roots stay my natural color (which is fantastic, because it doesn't show grow out). I absolutely love the result!

As for shortening my styling time, there is a definite give and take. I will be able to use less shampoo, conditioner, & product and my blow dry time will be less, but with my hair this short I have to style it every day. I have thick, wavy, frizzy, coarse hair, so when it is less weighed down it really needs the help of a round brush and a straightener. I won't be wearing my hair naturally curly any time soon, but I'm looking forward to styling with my curling wand. Luckily, I rarely wear a ponytail or put my hair up so I'm not worried about that at all.

I really hope you all enjoy and have a Happy Friday! Thank you for all the wonderful compliments and kind words - it's so nice to know there are such sweet people in this world!

  1. Hi Amanda,

I logged onto Twitter this morning and noticed your amazing angled bob! It looks stunning, and I do remember the pic way back when you had that type of cut!

I understand about having thick, coarse, frizzy and wavy hair! I have the exact same type of hair, no joke! And as for shortening the length of time to dry and use less product, I understand that too! But yes, only thing is that you would have to style it all the time. Which is what I have to do as well.

I had grew out my hair as well and back in May I went for a LOB cut, but because my hair is just like yours and b/c I have a 2 year old, I had to go for a shorter option and went to a new salon that opened up recently in my city. She did an amazing job and I took a bunch of pics. I did the Julianne Hough haircut when she had this amazing short hair and my stylist did the exact same cut which was awesome!

My blow-drying time has cut down drastically in the mornings but I do have to straighten it! I use a CHI flat iron, but lately it has been dying on me off and on and doesn't work regularly anymore. So now I am investing in a really good one I have been eyeing for the longest time in hopes my CHI is going to die eventually lol. I will be going into the City soon which is like 2 hours away from me and opt for the GHD Flat Iron!

Which flat iron do you currently use? Is your haircare routine still the same as before?

If not, could you do an updated haircare routine blog post???? We have the same hair type and I could really use your tips!!!

Anyway, sorry this is so long! But as always, I love your blog posts no matter what! Simple and Sweet!

Have a great and awesome weekend, Amanda!

    1. Thank you so much for your comment! I love that you can relate to my crazy thick, frizzy hair. It's a blessing and a curse for sure :). I currently use a GHD flat iron and don't think I will ever go back to CHI. My hair type (as you can probably relate) kills flat irons pretty quickly. I've had my GHD since graduate school and it's still working really well. Once it dies I will reinvest in another.

I will be posting an updated hair routine soon! Someone else asked for a post on how I tease my hair so I will include that as well!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

    2. Aw, I am so glad to hear you love your GHD! I am going to my Sephora store which is 2 hours away from me during the long weekend here we have in Canada next weekend to buy the GHD as my CHI is dying now on me. It makes me feel better to spend $300ish on a GHD and that it has lasted you that long too and that it works for your hair!

I am so looking forward to your blog post on your updated hair and how you tease your hair!

Do you have the GHD Classic 1 Inch?

    3. That's a great question! Let me check what kind it is when I get home - I think it's just the generic version though.

  2. I absolutely love your new hair cut and style, I think I would put a little mousse and blow dry and go..it's so gorgeous! You look so beautiful with this kind of cut and style! Long hair can really bring your face down and this style makes you look so young and chic.

    1. Thank you so much for your sweet comment! I'm loving that it's a much cleaner professional look and am shocked at how much older it makes me feel :) - in a good way!

  3. You're new hair cut looks fabulous! Just entered your giveaway, fingers crossed!

    1. I'm so glad you entered Lyndsey! And thank you for the compliment - I'm so happy I haven't had hair cutting remorse hah.

  4. Your new hair is so chic and mature! It's funny that you decided to change up your hair because I also changed up my hair about two days ago...how ironic!

    1. Thank you Kate! You are always so sweet :). I hope you are enjoying your new hair too!
