A Casual New Year's Eve Outfit

Hi. Hey. Hello.

I'm so excited to bring you a casual New Year's Eve look today - in case you don't feel like wearing a sequin dress or a scandalous body suit. If you are in the market for something fancy, check out my recent post featuring a beautiful black lace dress

If you're in need of something more comfortable try pairing a white tee with some distressed skinny jeans, peep toe booties, and a leather jacket. The jacket I'm wearing if one of the best purchases I've made all season and I've absolutely already gotten my money's worth. I suggest buying in black too! A peep toe bootie, like the ones shown, is a great alternative to a heel and gives your feet a little pizzazz. The ones I'm wearing are without a doubt the most comfortable boot I own.

I added a couple accessories linked above and below. My David Yurman ring for a little sparkle and a gorgeous tassel necklace Santa put in my stocking - isn't it fun?! It came with a similarly colored chain link necklace, and I'm linking a similar version because it would look amazing as well.

Merry Christmas

Ho ho ho! Merry Christmas Friends!

It's the best day of the year and I'm so excited to bring you a blog post today. Yesterday Justin and I went to a four hour Christmas Eve brunch with some of our Sacramento friends and after were able to walk down the street to take some photos - yay no white garage am I right?! Haha!

It was actually quite chilly outside, but this off the shoulder sweater kept me surprisingly warm. It's from a boutique called Fab Finds Boutique in North Carolina and part of a line called Sid & Sam (you can shop via Instagram @sidandsam). They currently have one similar called the Lucy Sweater. My jeans are the usual go-to flare. Unfortunately, these aren't available anymore, but I've linked some that are very similar and under $70. Luckily, my comfy olive booties are in stock and are linked above and below!

I hope that all of you are having an amazing Christmas and are enjoying the company of family, friends and fur babies. Justin and I decided to stay in California this year since cross-country travel isn't always so easy, but fortunately, we got to see both of our families for Thanksgiving. It's my first holiday in 24 years that I'm not waking up at my grandparent's house so it feels a little strange, but I'm so happy to have a great guy and a sweet, sweet pup.

I'll be back with another post tomorrow as there are some huge sales happening so stop by for all the good details and my picks! You'll be able to put those gift cards and holiday money to good use!

For my family and Justin's who are reading this today - we love you and miss you and can't wait to get back to traditions next year! Thanks for all of your support and the generous gifts - we are truly blessed!

My Current Eye Makeup Routine

Hello and Happy Friday! It's only two days until Santa makes an appearance! Can you believe it?! I hope you have some wonderful plans and are already spending quality time with family. Justin and I are planning to enjoy some much-needed relaxation with little Miss Heidi.

For today's post, I'm sharing my daily eye makeup routine. I realize it's been a while since I've shared a routine and this is the same one I've had for quite some time now. It would work well for so many occasions...errands, work, girl's night, date night, etc. And it's really quick & simple! I've listed each individual product and how I use it below.

1. MAC Painterly Paint Pot // The first step in my eye makeup process is a primer. I highly encourage you to prime your eyes before putting on shadow or liner. A great primer will intensify color and will keep your makeup on all day long. It can also prevent liner and mascara from transferring above your eye throughout the day. I've been using this paint pot from MAC for years and I'm still on the same pot. This stuff lasts forever!

2. Scotch Tape // Okay...this is a game changer! Want the straightest liner and the most perfect cat eye?! Go grab that scotch tape out of your craft drawer and cut off two small pieces! You want to line the top of the tape up with the outer corner of your eyebrow. So it's going up at an angle from the corner of your eye. I like to put my tape on after my primer.

3. Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer // Using a fluffy blending brush, I blend bronzer into the outer and middle crease of my eye. You can use an eye shadow transition shade, but bronzer works just as well and gives the outer eye a more natural magnified appearance! Make sure to blend, blend, blend.

4. Urban Decay Eye Shadow (sin) // After I have my crease color applied, I like to place this shadow on my lid. It's work appropriate, but has enough sparkle to make it fun for nighttime too! You can even spray MAC Fix+ on your brush before applying for amplified color.

5. Kat Von D Tattoo Liquid Liner (trooper) // This is my favorite liner of all time! I've gone through so many and plan to buy them until the end of time hah! I also own it in brown, but I find myself reaching for black almost all of the time. It's a long-wearing liquid liner that doesn't come off or become shiny throughout the day.

This is when I pull off my tape (carefully) and complete my face makeup!

6. Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel // After I've finished my face makeup I'll put a clear brow gel on my eyebrows. This is my favorite and one tube lasts me all year long! I own brow products that contain color, but for the day-to-day this is all I use.

7. Rimmel Kohl Eye Liner (nude) // This is a gorgeous liner for the lower water line! It stays on for quite a while and the cream color makes the eyes look so much more awake. It's a small step that makes a big difference!

8. Loreal Voluminous Lash Primer // If you don't own this product, you are seriously missing out! Loreal hit a home run with this eyelash primer. It was originally part of a dual ended brush with mascara but became so popular they now package it alone. The purpose of this product? To create a base layer on your lashes that helps your usual mascara look longer and more voluminous. The initial coating of primer really makes a difference! It also keeps mascara from flaking or transferring under your eye. I use it on my bottom lashes first.

9. Dior Addict It-Lash Mascara // I've been talking about this mascara since I started writing my blog. It's my favorite lower lash mascara because it's the only one I've used that doesn't transfer under my eye and it's a quality product. You can obviously wear it on your top lashes too, but I like to save all of my for the bottom.

10. Loreal Voluminous Lash Primer // After touching up my liner, I put the same primer on my upper lashes. I like to let it dry for about 30 seconds before applying mascara to my top lashes.

11. Essence Extreme Crazy Volume Mascara // I realize my mascara routine is excessive and obviously you don't need three. This is just how I like to layer and is my preference. If you've never tried putting different mascaras together I would give it a try - it can help with lengthening and volume since all wands have different strengths. This first mascara is by Essence and sooo affordable! I like to use this one first because it gives my lashes length.

12. Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara // Next, I use my favorite high-end mascara. This is the best overall product since it volumizes and lengthens. It helps to make my lashes look fuller and more dramatic. I'm on my third or fourth tube!

13. Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect Mascara // Last, but not least, I like to go over my lashes one last time, focusing on the tips, with another Essence mascara. It's like the icing on the cake!

I hope this was helpful! And that you've discovered some new products! I hope you and your families have an amazing Christmas and holiday season. Stay warm and come back Sunday for a special very Merry Christmas post.

What to Wear On the First Day of Winter

Sweater // Coat (on sale!) // Leggings // Boots (on sale!) // Slippers
Gloves (on sale!) // Hat // Nail Polish // Lipstick

Good Morning and Happy First Day of Winter!

I thought I'd share a comfy outfit for the cold temps most of you are experiencing. The grey v-neck sweater pictured above is one of my favorites and made of an incredibly cozy material (and it comes in four colors). I paired it with a pair of green slim fit leggings I currently own in black. They are my favorite leggings to wear day to day and I ended up buying in bulk because I wear them so often. Over top I love my black knee high boots, which I'm sure you've seen a hundred times if you follow me on Instagram. They are so practical, so comfortable and right now are 50% off! I actually own them in brown as well because I get so much wear out of them. If you're at home I've linked an adorable suede slipper bootie - sure to keep your toes nice and toasty!

For outerwear, I've linked a beautiful faux fur trim hooded jacket that is currently on sale for less than $90! It comes in multiple colors and is a staple for your wardrobe in the winter since it keeps your behind covered. It's also important to protect your fingers so I've included a pair of my favorite cashmere fingerless gloves - you can text and type without having to take them on and off. And finally for accessories you can't go wrong with red!

Have a fabulous Wednesday and don't forget you can shop all the items below!

How to Get Motivated for 2017

It's hard to believe 2016 is almost over. And what a year it has been! 2016, for me, will definitely go down in the books as an amazing year of transition, relocation, love, learning, and a lot of fun! I hope the year has been good to you as well. I started thinking about 2017 and realized I've yet to set my resolution goals. As always, I will have a resolutions post up the first of the year. It's the one day of the year I really open up about life, love, struggle, etc. giving you a true glimpse into my day to day.

Today I thought I would share my recommendations for New Year motivation. Ways you can plan for success and envision where you'd like to be a month from now, three months from now, and even a year from now. So let's get started!

Look at 2016 - Congratulate yourself! First and foremost, however challenging your year has been, congratulate yourself! No matter how small, there's always something to be proud of. Making a new friend, learning a new skill, returning a kindness, helping someone up when they were down, eating healthier foods, etc. etc. etc. - you get the idea. I'm probably not one to talk because I am very hard on myself and everything I do. It's rare I sit down and tell myself "good job" or pat myself on the back for achieving new goals. But I think it's really important to give yourself some credit and to not be so hard on yourself for the goals you didn't achieve or the places in your life that need improvement. Take a look at what you've done and what you have - I'm sure someone somewhere is wishing for what you've already got.

Make a list. After you've given yourself some kudos and a nice big hug :) it's time to make a list! I loveee making lists - seriously, I think it's a minor sickness.  Think about the things you want to accomplish or the things you wanted to achieve this year, but just couldn't fit in. Your list can include items for work, items for life, items for love, travel, personal appearance, education, etc. The world is your oyster! Once you've exhausted your brain and your list is done, try putting them in order of importance. This will help you to prioritize.

Speaking of prioritization, watch this video...

Does this make you want to change your list?

Set your goals. Now that you've had a chance to make a list, and possibly edit it, it's time to set goals to match your aspirations and desires for 2017. Keep in mind, these don't have to be lofty ideas like building a billion dollar empire or losing 100 pounds. Small goals are still goals all the same. For example, I really, really want to start getting up earlier in the mornings and I want to get to a place where it isn't incredibly painful to do so. Not necessarily life changing, but it could give me extra hours each day to accomplish new things and to get work done early. Your goals should also include a reasonable timeline. Will it take two months to learn to ski? Or will it take 12 to find new love? Goals are ever changing because life happens and it happens to all of us. Be kind to yourself if you don't complete a resolution on time or if you miss the mark altogether. I don't know if this needs to be said, but I recommend writing or typing these and keeping them close by for quick reference.

Make a plan of execution. Now that you've made a list and you've created goals, it's time to think about the execution. Let's use weight loss as an example, since that's a very common resolution. If your list states you want to "lose weight" and your goal says you "want to lose 10 pounds in two months" your plan of execution would say things like "eat a balanced diet, incorporate fresh foods, buy a gym membership, walk during lunch hour, etc." And once you meet your goal(s) it's not a bad idea to incorporate rewards! A massage, a day off work, some shopping, etc...

Buy a fun outfit to ring in the New Year. So here you are - with a list, some goals and a plan of execution...now what!? Other than getting excited about all your planned accomplishments, I think it's time to celebrate the end of a year and the beginning of all things 2017 - this might involve some new shoes. Go on girl, go get yourself some New Year's Eve attire! Hey, if it means buying a new set of pj's and a set of wine glasses, I'm all for that too - you do you. If you're thinking of wearing something a little more fancy, last week I shared a post with a beautiful black lace dress. And for some additional options, I've included linked photos below!

Have a wonderful Monday and good luck planning!

Stocking Stuffers Under $30

Hello and Happy Friday Friends!

It's almost time for Santa to make an appearance - can you believe it?! I know life gets busy so you can't always finish your shopping early and sometimes stockings are left until the last minute. Never fear, I've listed twelve ideas under $30 that would make amazing gifts for a stocking, for a friend, or heck, for yourself! You might want that "Awesome Water" wine glass after a long year.

I tried to picks items anyone would love and that serve all types of purposes. Something scented, something warm, an eye mask for winter hibernation, earrings for the girly girl, hair ties for the cute gym rat, and a scarf & mittens that work well for anyone! The infinity scarf above is less than $12 which is such a steal and would work well with so many outfits or coat colors. I also included my favorite nail polish formula of all time - and yes, it's a splurge, but it is so. worth. it.

...and if you're in need of an actual stocking I'm in love with this faux fur stocking (under $25!).

I hope you find these helpful! I've included easy picture links below for quick shopping!

Happy Holidays!

New Year's Eve Attire

Black Fire Lace Dress (also in burgundy) // Similar Black Peep Toe Heel (also here and here

Can you believe it's almost Christmas?! If you haven't picked up a holiday dress or you're preplanning your New Year's Eve attire, then this is the post for you! It's never a bad idea to start looking early because usually the best styles and sizes sell out fast.

When I originally saw this dress on the hanger I wasn't very enthused, but once I put it on... wow! I knew it would be perfect for so many occasions and it's warm enough to wear during the fall & winter months. I recently wore it to a holiday get together and paired it with a faux fur vest to stay warm. I suggest buying true to size. The waistline has a nice stretch so you won't feel suffocated and will be able to eat a nice big holiday meal Plus, it's under $60!

Below I've linked my outfit above and have also included some other beautiful dresses, shoes and accessories for your holiday parties!

Have a fabulous Wednesday!

How To Look Cute At An Ugly Christmas Sweater Party

I've been chomping at the bit to share today's photos! I found this ugly Christmas sweater and skirt at Target several weeks ago and knew they would be perfect for a cute spin on the Ugly Christmas Sweater Party. Luckily, both are still available and I've included others in the shop section below.

I always struggle with the "ugly" christmas party, because I always want to look put together, even though that's totally besides the point. But I'm sure there are others out there like me! I've never seen a sweater skirt so I snatched this one with the candy canes right up. It's incredibly comfortable and looks darling with a sweater tucked in like the one I purchased with the gingerbread man. You can't see it in these photos, but the bottom of the sweater says "Oh, Snap!"

Due to the chilly weather I paired my sweater and skirt with some black tights, suede booties and favorite pom beanie. These tights are actually by SPANX and I highly recommend! They are really good quality, hold you in, and are much less likely to snag like most hose. I've had mine for several years now and I snag tights like it's my job hah!

I hope you'll have an excuse to buy yourself a cute ugly Christmas sweater outfit too! If not, it would also be cute to wear one or the other to work. I definitely plan to sport this gingerbread man with skinny jeans and black knee high boots.

Oh, did you know today is Green Monday?! I actually didn't know the day existed until this year, but there are tons of great sales to be had! A great time to shop for last minute gifts for friends & family or to shop for New Year's Eve attire. I'll be sharing my pick for the best black lace dress on Wednesday, so stay tuned!

Happy Shopping and Happy Holidays!
