Gals & Guys | Valentine's Gift Guides

galentine's day gift guide

I've had several requests for Galentine's Day loungewear and also gifts for your guy, so today I'm sharing both! Oh, and all of these could make great gifts for yourself as well. No one says you can't be your own Valentine! For gal gifts, I looked for items that are both cute and relatively affordable. They would make great decorations, items for a spa themed party, or items to bring with you for the host of your Vday get together. Luckily, there are so many amazing pink and red, heart-themed pieces out right now. I particularly love the pom pillow and special edition Diptyque candle

Half Up Glam Hair Tutorial

This post is sponsored by Mirum, but opinions expressed are my own.

half up hair tutorial

I've had quite a few requests for additional hair tutorials so today I'm sharing a (quick) glam hair look and a chit-chat about how I keep my hair healthy. It's been a while since I've done anything but curl or straighten my hair so I'm excited to share a half up look I used to do all the time - perfect for date night (like Valentine's Day) or going out with friends

But first, let's talk about the importance of healthy hair...

New Beauty Favorite | Guize Face FX Contour Palette Review

Thank you to Guize Face FX for sponsoring this post. All opinions are my own!

guize face fx highlight contour palette

TGIF, Friends! I am SO excited to share today's Face It Friday post with you because I've discovered a new makeup FAV. Lately, I've been getting so many questions about what cosmetics I use and I'm happy to report I've found a new contour & highlight palette that made the cut! I'm really picky about the products that make it into my vanity drawer and this one did it after the first try! When I'm testing a palette like this I look for several things... pigmentation, application, the overall quality of the product & packaging, and how smooth it is. I'm happy to say The Guize Face FX palette has it all! The palette's packaging is both trendy and sleek - I mean let's be honest... fabulous product packaging counts! AND it's affordable (insert clapping hands emoji).

Valentine's Day Outfit Inspo

valentine's day outfit

Yesterday on IG I asked if you'd like to see winter items on sale or spring inspiration and spring inspo won by a landslide! So I thought I'd give you a cute, bright Valentine's Day outfit. I purchased this adorable hot pink ruffle top and am over the moon with how perfect it is. It's definitely way brighter in person but I'm A-okay with that! I'm planning to pair it with my newest pair of skinnies (also pictured above). They are a tad pricey but I couldn't resist because they have a 26-inch inseam which is fab for my tall ladies in spring, and amazing for my petite gals year round because you don't have to hem them! It's such an amazing feeling to put on a pair of jeans and have them fit "normally" in the length. They have less stretch than most of the denim I own, but I still bought true to size as most of the reviews suggested.

How adorable are all these heart-shaped accessories?! My favorite is definitely the quilted purse - it's only $46 (and also comes in black). That tassel and chain detailing! I'm also loving the heart-shaped lipstick and fabulous sunnies... both come in three colors in case you don't want pink. And lastly, the prettiest pair of sparkle strap sandals under $60. I was reading through the reviews and people had wonderful things to say about the comfort level and versatility.

I hope this gives you a little holiday inspo no matter your plans!

My Daily Routine (Monday - Friday)

As many of you know, I've been working to master a new morning routine by waking up earlier so my days are more productive. So far, I've been more successful than I'd originally anticipated. Now, that's not to say there haven't been a couple days I got up after 7 and I don't stick to my 6 am wake up calls on the weekend (I think it's important to let my body get up on its own at least one day a week... usually on Sunday). I even started a hashtag group on Instagram #teamriseandshine so that my readers and followers can join my morning movement. I've loved all the early morning shoutouts and coffee pics!

My Photo & Filming Equipment

Ever since Justin gave me studio lights for my birthday, I've been getting lots of questions about where they were from and what other lights I've been using for my Instagram videos and photos. So I thought I'd put together a list of all the things I've acquired lately they are related to blog photography, filming, and my current setup. Last week I also got a new clothing rack that is SO much sturdier than my last but still very affordable, along with a faux fur ottoman under $50 that was one of the best finds ever (I've been using it at my vanity)!

Spring Preview

spring clothing and accessory preview

I know it's nowhere near Spring (we are even supposed to get snow today), but there's no better time to start shopping for warmer weather than now. There are so many amazing pieces coming out daily, and if you don't get them quick, they'll sell out. So if you see something you love, snag it and hold on to it until the weather allows. Some of this year's trends include light blue & white stripes, chambray (yay!), blush pink, embellished mules & loafers, round-shaped straw bags, bright pops of color, asymmetrical details, and statement earrings.

I snatched up the hot pink platform wedges above and cannot say enough good things! They are one of the cutest pairs of shoes I've ever owned and are also very high-quality. You've probably seen the more traditional wedge style (like the pink one above it) on tons of bloggers before. The hot pink version is brand new and also comes in bright yellow and teal (plus the usual neutrals). I also purchased the tapestry floral patterned asymmetrical skort and love it! I tried it on during my IG story skirt try-on sesh and was surprised at how comfortable it is. It even looks cute with a sweater for a Winter to Spring transition.

I hope this early preview post will be helpful and encourage you to start cleaning out those cold-weather wardrobes in anticipation of switching things over. Also, a good time to go through your Spring and Summer clothing to see what you can get rid of/sell and start planning a color palette or plan for what holes you need to fill.

Have a happy hump day!

Pressing Pause On Stress

target off duty tee

I've been trying to keep Mondays motivational and confidence building since the start of the year since during the holiday season fashion & beauty took precedence. Monday's posts are definitely the most challenging to write, but they are absolutely the most fulfilling.

A lot of you expressed interest in more posts about anxiety, my journey, and how I've worked to overcome it. A large part of my anxiety comes from stress. Or possibly vice versa. And when I'm feeling overwhelmed by chaos in my life or in my mind, it exacerbates any anxious twinges I may already have. I've learned there are several things I can do to help curb these feelings of becoming overwhelmed so I'd like to share them with you, in hopes they may be helpful.

Dry Skin Savers

Hello, hello, and TGIF! I'm so excited to report that I officially conquered my early morning goal this week to wake up at 6am (or 6:15 lol)! It may seem silly to those of you who are inherently morning people but for me, it is such a struggle. Monday and Tuesday seemed easy, Wednesday and Thursday I had to force myself up, and today wasn't half bad because, hey, it's Friday! I've always looked forward to Friday's because it's the last day of the week... I always get energized and motivated to finish my work. If you've joined #teamriseandshine on Instagram, let me know how your week has been below in the comments. Is anyone else feeling much more productive?! (If any of this is confusing, make sure to check out Monday's blog post).

Instagram Roundup

SHERPA PULLOVER: Marley Lilly (c/o) DISTRESSED SKINNIES: Articles of Society SPARKLE SNEAKERS: Target | PHONE CASE: Speck | EXTENSIONS: Luxy Hair (c/o)

It's been quite some time since I've done an Instagram roundup, so today's the day! I realize after looking at all the pictures that the majority of the items are accessories... cozy slippers, sparkly sneakers, my fav leopard makeup bag, and an amazing phone clutch and magnetic case. So many fabulous pieces still in stock, and suggestions for things similar that aren't.

Btw the monogrammed sherpa pullover above was just restocked and was so popular before Christmas that it completely sold out - so comfy!

Overcoming Failed Resolutions

my morning favorites
my morning favorites

The second Monday of the year is here which means it's time to reflect on the start of your resolutions. Yes, I know, it's only been seven days, but the first week can be telling for the rest of the year. And if, for some reason, you've already found yourself struggling, or one or more of your resolutions has failed, that doesn't mean you still can't succeed. And you're in good company with me. None of my big picture resolutions have failed but I made some personal resolutions as well... and one, in particular, didn't last more than a day. For years I've wanted to become an early riser but I can never seem to manage it, unless it's required for work or a particular event.

Tuesday of last week I woke up at 6am and was already organized, coffee in hand, working my way through emails before Justin left for work. I felt so accomplished and by noon had already made my way through most of my to-do list. Such a good feeling!

Winter Skincare Routine

Okay, gals (& guys), I've had so many questions about my skincare routine lately. It's been a long time since I've talked about what I use because I went through a period of time where I was really unhappy with the way my skin looked. Lots of redness (I have rosacea) and textural issues. Part of this was keeping an inconsistent routine and part was due to our recent move. For some reason, my skin really dislikes cross-country travel. I remember when I moved to California it freaked out and then panicked again when we moved in October. SO I decided to start an entirely new skincare routine and promised myself I would stick to it every day so I could gauge whether it actually made a difference.

New Year, New Routine | Makeup Removal

This post is sponsored by Mirum, but opinions expressed are my own.

Hello, Gals & Guys! Yesterday I talked in depth about my 2018 New Year's Resolutions so I thought I'd continue along the same path today by talking about my skin care goals. In the past, I didn't pay much attention to my skin. I was always more worried about covering it up with makeup to make it look better. It wasn't until the last year or so I realized my skin is actually a canvas and that's the first place I need to start. I realized if my skin looked good, my makeup looked better! Since, I've spent more time concentrating on cleansing and moisturizing daily - keeping a consistent routine is key.

So my goals for 2018... don't skip parts of my nightly routine and achieve glowing dewy skin

One of the most important things you can do for your skin each day is to take off your makeup. It is VERY rare that I fall asleep with my makeup on, and if I do, I'm probably sick or extremely tired. Taking off ALL of your makeup is so much more than swiping on a makeup removal cloth or just using water. To thoroughly clean and cleanse, you need to add in some important steps.

2018 Resolutions

brunette the label rose okay sweatshirt
brunette the label rose okay sweatshirt

Goodbye, 2017. Hello, 2018! It's always exciting to ring in a new year and to say goodbye to an old one. Sometimes sad to see a year full of good memories disappear, but also happy to say sayonara to any unfortunate events, be what they may. A new year means a new slate for new adventures, endeavors, and opportunities. A new page in a new book where you get the chance to write or rewrite the story. I've written a resolutions post for the last three years now and it's always a huge hit. I would guess it's because they are the most candid - full of reflection and honesty. It gives me a chance to open up to all of you about what has transpired and what I hope to achieve moving forward.

While thinking about my resolutions this year, I've realized the tide has changed. In years past many of my thoughts and desires surrounded love, relationships and learning to be happy with myself within companionship... I'm happy to report I feel fulfilled and complete in these areas. It's heartwarming to see how the last year has changed my perspective on dating and partnership. That I've come to trust more, love fuller, and embrace the journey of just being happy. It wasn't without trial and error but it's amazing to see the positive outlook that has been built up in my mind, replacing so many bad memories and tribulations of relationships past.

I digress.

The reason I say all of this is that this year my resolutions are all about business and self-growth. I find myself in a wonderful place in my love life and home life and can now focus on the growth of myself, my brand, and my mind. Things I've been hoping to achieve for quite some time now.
